Fiesta.

Wow, two posts in one night?? This is rare.  At any rate, I'm being productive and that's always a good thing.  I've found that I was so busy for so long in my work life that I let things slack at home.  So now, getting things done!

My mom had a conference in San Antonio recently and they gave her some of the metal decorations for fiesta wreaths in her welcome bag!!  I desperately wanted to make a fiesta wreath for fiesta this year, but it was a week earlier than in the past and I just didn't have the time or money as I was in the middle of the move.

In the meantime I thought I could show off the pretty decorations in my room, as well as the cute little piñata that came with them, so I found some lace I purchased for a crafting project to make this little piece of decor to fit in the small space between two of my windows.  It's cute and adds some San Antonio flair!

Stay tuned for more.

Home Sweet Home.

This post should've been posted Thurs night, but Blogger was down so I'm writing it today.  I'm pretty excited lately because I feel like my room (and the house) are FINALLY coming together... over a month later!!

After a trip to Ikea on the way back from Dallas last weekend, I picked up this lovely pot rack which just barely fit into the space we intended to use it for.  It makes the kitchen look pretty lived in, so I love that aspect.  We also didn't have a microwave this first month, so the stove was heavily used and it's nice to have the pots & pans easily accessible.

Then I stayed up super late on Thursday (and I had to drive a lot the next day) to get some of the bigger boxes out of my room.  I finally got one part of my room presentable... the closet!  My brother got me an awesome "Keep Calm and Carry On" picture when he was in London for spring break and it fits perfectly in between the closet and the door.  The bucket that my cookbooks and magazines moved into was a purchase the week before.  I also managed to (mostly) condense my large walk-in closet to this small 1920s closet.  I love it!

Hopefully I'll get down to business and clean out the rest of the room to make it presentable.  Can't wait to share it!

Lovely Saturday.

There are still boxes everywhere in the house... but we finally got internet!  Yay!  I watered the lawn this morning, but today was mostly full of golf.  Yes, golf.

We headed out to the Texas Valero Open held at the AT&T Oaks course at TPC.  We spent the first portion camped out in the bleachers at the 16th hole where there was a nice breeze.  We then moved to the 10th hole to wait for Geoff Ogilvy and encountered the top of the standings while waiting there.  Finally, we camped out at the 18th hole to see the end.  We witnessed Vegas make something like a 68' putt for eagle.  It was awesome.

2010 Champion - Adam Scott

Kevin Chappell - leader at the time

Geoff Ogilvy

Overall a fun afternoon.  Didn't accomplish much around the house, but a good Saturday!

MOVING

I put in notice at my apartment complex today. I feel so FREE.

When my lease is up I will officially no longer be an 09er. I'll be closer to my friends, hopefully in a bigger place with a lower rent. I hate feeling tied down by leases, but maybe just this once it won't be so bad to stick around for awhile? I feel as though I'm beginning to be who I want to be.

April, May, June, July...

Where does the time go? I feel like ever since I got here I've been in a constant state of static... go to work, come home, go to sleep, rinse and repeat.

I'm not sure direction I want my blog to take. It started out as my adventures in travelling and moving several thousand miles to a place I had no place to live, no job, no family and no friends. Now, I'm back in my home state with all of the above and it appears there's not much to write about.

I still have a life list of things I'd like to check off... I still like to keep tabs on things that inspire me.. I still will be the crazy plant lady with more plants than I know what to do with, I'm just not sre what I should be blogging about...

I started watching the BBC series Hotel Babylon and hav really become quite enamoured with it. I watched the first three seasons and loved, loved, loved the first two! I started the fourth season yesterday and since most of the original characters have left by now (or are leaving in the near future) and the writing has come pretty mediocre, I'm losing interested in the series. However, I discovered the series was based on a book! Hotel Babylon by Imogene Edwards-Jones and Anonymous received fantastic reviews, so for under $5 including shipping I received a used copy from Half.com.

It came in today and I am looking forward to reading it! I have a number of books lying around that I need to get through, but am doing so slowly but surely.

Just another manic Monday

I am going to make it a point one of these days to sit down and write a real post. My apartment is clean and photoable (is that a word?) right now, so I need to get on it! I've gotten several new plants (a puslane, which is beautiful plant that does really well in south Texas, mine has gorgeous pink and orange flowers, and an African Violet, which is my sorority's flower and supposedly one of the easiest houseplants to take care of!).

The African Violet looks gorgeous above my bookshelf, under the window. The purslane is out on my little plant stand on the patio and is doing VERY well. I moved my Angel Wing Begonia into a terracotta pot outside on the patio and it is thriving! I never realized how unhappy it was inside but it seems all is not lost yet with him... The plant cuttings my uncle took for me (we figured out the name Saturday, but I can't remember) is starting to do pretty well. I put the bag back over the pot and they all perked back up. It's still inside and I want to move it outside eventually.

I need to clean off my patio... a lot of things blow through it and get caught behind my furniture. So that will be my mission this week.

Oh and I have a dresser! The seller dropped it off Saturday afternoon, so I spent a total of $100 on it which is what I was shooting for! (Edit: For some reason the photo stopped working... I will find out and repost.)

It seems to be an older Texas piece. The bottom sides and back legs are coming loose, so I need to have those fixed, but otherwise its just what I was looking for! Now that I have it, I'm not sure if I can paint it and put fabric on it, its beautiful, but we'll see...

Office plants

I bought 2 new plants today for my office! I am quite excited about them, the first is an angel wing begonia... I love the way the leaves look like wings and end up all spotted like that. The colors are fantastic. It's officially a Cane Begonia and I believe it to be a B. Cracklin Rosie.

The second is this little pinkish plant that we think is a caladium. Now caladiums are elephant ears, so this is a miniture version. (EDIT: I discovered this is actually called Hypoestes phyllostachya, or Polka Dot plant). I am so excited about my plants! Next I want to put them in the same pot with a 3rd variety so I can have a nice little one pot garden at work.

The nursery we went to, Green Gate, is wonderful. It had so many beautiful plants and flowers, I am definitely going to come back to it when I get my own place and want some new plants. I want a citrus tree, some tea roses... you know, pretty things.

Found an apartment!

I am SO excited about this place! Mom and I looked at a total of 5 places today and the 4th one was the winner! She had picked it out over a week ago and knew it was her favorite and when we visited today it was definite.

The place is great. First of its BRAND new. I love places that are older and have character, but in a rental where I'm the single occupant, a lot of things I don't want to have to deal with or take care of. And since its new, those problems shouldn't be happening yet. Secondly, its gated and has a staffed office. Very important in San Antonio. Thirdly, it has parking and an in apt washer/dryer. I would rather not get attacked while doing laundry in a laundry room.

Things like utilities aren't included... and its not in Alamo Heights or Terrell Hills like I was looking for, but I feel that the pros of the place far outweigh the con of being in San Antonio proper. Plus its only a 15 minute drive to work without traffic! Which means it shouldn't be too bad during rush hour!

Hopefully everything goes smoothly. If so I'll be moving in in about a month!
